“Cast off” was the 2018 motto of the Brandenburgian state festival taking place in Wittenberge. However, we are not resting on our laurels.

That's us - and we've always been: a cosmopolitan town between the two major metropolises. For centuries we Wittenbergers “emigrated” to Hamburg and Berlin, where we conscientiously learned our trade - and came back to our homeland with new, successful ideas. This is how we founded the urban economy and carried its good reputation all over the world: with millions of the most modern sewing machines from our “Singer” and later “Veritas” plants, with the finest oils from our “Märkische Ölmühle” or with the most delicious candies, sugar confectionery and chocolates from “Eduard Witte & Sons”.

It is thanks to the idealism of the Wittenbergers that each and every one of these places has found a new identity, with impressive missions: where we once lovingly made sweets and children flattened their noses at the window displays, we now nurture disadvantaged adolescents to be tolerant and open people in the “SOS Children's Village Prignitz”.

Where we used to process the seeds from the expanses of Prignitz into oils, today spirited melodies by excellent artists can be heard on our “Elbland stage” at the annual “Elbland Festival” at the “Alte Ölmühle”. Today, the next generation of young professionals is learning the professions of the future under our urban landmark, the SINGER clock tower of the old sewing machine factory.

And yet one thing has remained in all times: our love for the Elbe. As the center of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve “Elbe Valley”, we are as close to nature and our homeland as ever, and above all one thing - hospitable! Welcome!
