As the historic capital of the Prignitz district, the city of Perleberg is of particular importance for the region. In Brandenburg it is one of the cities with the largest inventory of monuments. In addition to the oldest half-timbered church in Brandenburg, one of the few surviving Roland figures in northern Germany can be found here. Another special feature of Perleberg are the merchants' houses, some of which are still from the late Middle Ages, which, together with numerous half-timbered houses from the 18th to 19th centuries, shape the old town. With field stone churches from the 13th century, the villages around Perleberg have some of the oldest surviving village churches in Prignitz.
