Open gardens in Prignitz

The diverse natural and cultural landscape of Prignitz has a lot to offer: Greenery not only characterizes the vast meadows, pastures and forests - the towns and villages are also green and blooming.

The small front gardens with beds made of boxwood, taxus or flowering plants are particularly beautiful – the residents' calling cards. Behind many houses there are often gardens in traditional or individual styles. The garden owners invite you to visit their private green oasis.

A current overview of all participating gardens can be found below.

Alpakahof Rambow

The Dreiseitenhof in Rambow/Plattenburg was built around 1895. After a change of ownership at the end of 2019, it was given the name “Der Alpakahof”.
From May 2021 to May 2022, the main building on the ground floor was completely renovated, a holiday apartment was expanded and the inner courtyard was completely redesigned. Picket fences were set up here, paths laid out, lawns leveled and various perennials, trees, palms, grasses, shrubs and climbing plants planted. The area around the pond behind the stable building was also bordered with a colorful picket fence and designed as a place to relax.
Although only a short time has passed since the end of the redesign of the courtyard, there is already a paradisiacal-tropical atmosphere that invites you to linger, dream and relax. Creativity, peace, diversity and tranquility are very important at the alpaca farm.
On the day of the open gardens, the visitor can also expect his five alpacas, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and peacocks and a bit of “culture”.

A garden paradise for people and animals

A wonderful example of how the new owners have transformed a piece of land formerly used by small farmers into a garden paradise with an almost 300-year-old Kätner half-timbered house. After everything had been empty for years, the 3,600 m² plot of land was redesigned into this garden wonder in 1995, and in 2006 the house was extensively refurbished in accordance with the ecological guidelines. The original division of the courtyard, orchard and cattle paddock now appears as a colorful shrub and heather garden with a quail aviary, a berry garden with an adjoining relaxation area and Japanese elements. In addition, the rose and herb fragrance garden - reminiscent of a mini monastery garden - small orchards with wild hedges and a pond that are used by chickens and geese are enchanting. The goats graze in a park-like paddock. All around, native woody plants offer birds protection and food.

Castle grounds Lenzen

The tour through the four-hectare listed park of Lenzen Castle gives plenty of food for thought. In this natural poetry garden there are nine works of art between flowering herb meadows, shrub beds and islands of trees. With selected quotes from natural philosophy, they combine the relationship between man and nature and thus give impulses to think about us and our relationship to nature. In the back part
of the listed castle park is the Auen-Reich. On a 400 m long circular path you get insights into the special achievements of a near-natural floodplain landscape. Heaps of stones and deadwood hedges set design accents in the extensive garden area and help to create natural habitats, e.g. for grass snakes, shrews, earwigs and co. This year, flower strips of a special kind are appearing on swamp and lean beds. In the large wild herb meadow, more light and space is given to native flowering plants through initial planting, but also through the targeted removal of fast-growing and nutrient-depleting grasses.

Show, sighting and self-catering garden

This 1.3 hectare site, idyllically situated by the forest, has been used for horticultural purposes since the late 1920s and has been in the hands of the organic perennial nursery Teske since 2013. The two gardeners see their plantings as a field of experimentation. They are constantly gaining new knowledge about a wide variety of plants and their possible combinations. In addition to the cultivated varieties, selected wild perennials also have a permanent place in the natural garden and the mother plant quarters. The garden design with many wild herbs also serves as a meeting point for insects and birds. In summer, the ensemble of old buildings and the remaining walls of former greenhouses of the colorful variety of plants provides a cultural landscape stage for a rarely high number of butterflies. Even rare species such as the lean-grass mother-of-pearl butterfly, aurora butterfly and the bumblebee hawkmoth find their habitat here.

Groß Pankow manor park

The manor park was added to the manor house (1827) by Carl T. Gans Elern Herr
Putlitz laid out as a Biedermeier park after the estate was given areas south of the Panke when it was separated. The family cemetery was laid out in 1848, where the ivy-covered graves of the estate residents and their family members are still buried today. 1891
In 1891 the manor house and park underwent conversions and extensions under Konrad Gans Noble Herr zu Putlitz, the original park is only part of the whole. Remains of a partially removed swamp oak, silver maple, hornbeam and spruce and a small avenue of linden trees are witnesses of this time. Today the park is about 4 hectares in size. It is lined with rhododendrons and azaleas, lawns, meadows full of flowers, a colorful mixture of trees and the idyllic pond fed by underground springs. Between the parking lot on the south and the main house, the central path is bordered with flower beds, which also extend to the west and east of the house.

Green Oasis

This green oasis is located behind the excursion restaurant on a 6,000 m² garden paradise. The large garden inspires with a swimming pond and the very varied planting. These include shrub peonies, Judas tree, beautiful shrub, sickle fir, rock pear and various roses. Visitors on the sensory staircase are rewarded with the best view of the orchard and the fish pond. The kitchen garden invites you to snack and try: delicious aronia berries, sloes or the black mulberry as a somewhat rarer fruit besides the well-known berries. There are also plant cuttings for sale. A small petting zoo allows animal lovers to come into contact with animals.

Welcome to a diverse garden

In more than 30 years, a front, courtyard, kitchen and orchard with pond landscapes, winter gardens and a greenhouse was built around the half-timbered house. A colorful world of plants and animals invites you to linger: dwarf rabbits, chickens, canaries as well as cats and dogs, which animate the approximately 3,200 m2 property. There is a small playground, cozy sitting areas and a walkway with many nesting opportunities for birds and insects. Rare trees such as umbrella, hemlock and Korean fir or the silk tree are astonishing. Of the flowering and leafy plants, the succulent beds, ericas and over 30 types of daylily are particularly noteworthy. Also the topiary trees or the collection of up to 40 years old potted plants (camellias, agapanthus, fuchsias, oleanders and hibiscus) are eye-catchers.
An information stand and a small plant market top off your stay. We look forward to your visit and some interesting discussions.

Abbey of the Holy Sepulchre

The almost completely preserved monastery complex, which has been rebuilt again and again in the past, is a former Cistercian monastery in Heiligengrabe, which became a Protestant monastery for noble women after the Reformation. This place is still dedicated to the spiritual life. On an area of around five hectares, there are several attractive horticultural facilities such as the baroque half-timbered houses with their uniformly designed front gardens. The planting ranges from perennials and herbs to roses and shrubs. The ponds, which were only renatured in the past two years, are lined with old trees. Attractive specimens include: a gnarled catapla, a bald cypress and a large star magnolia that lets its white flowers shine in spring. In 2004 a herb garden was laid out in an area enclosed by a beech hedge. It houses around 80 medicinal and kitchen herbs, which, depending on the type of application, find their place in various box beds. The calm, almost meditative-looking area is complemented by perennials and shrubs.

A ›small park‹ on the Martinshof

The spacious small park with a garden of the senses is a place of being together, of nature, of rest and relaxation. The residents of the Martinshof
like to use the more than 220 m long barrier-free path created here, along which seating groups
and benches invite you to linger. New perspectives open up again and again. Flowers, shrubs and shrubs bloom in all seasons. Many scents stimulate the senses in a variety of ways, the differently lined paths also provide new impressions - and the small vegetable garden provides fresh food for the kitchen. Guests are welcome in the small park. Our gardener, Mrs. Pamin, offers guided tours.
